Visiting Kenya
Elizabeth II was on a trip to Kenya when she received news that her father had passed away. Her husband, Prince Philip, broke the news to her. She had just recently celebrated her 25th birthday and wasn’t expecting to bear such heavy duties on such short notice.
George VI passed away peacefully in his sleep while at the Sandringham House at just 56 years old. As soon as the news reaches Elizabeth’s ears, her party left Kenya and headed straight back home. She needed to spend time with her family, so she cut her tour in Kenya short.
