Even though the royal family has to adhere to super-strict rules that aren’t imposed on the public, they’re not entirely against breaking the rules when it suits them. For instance, while Kate Middleton waited patiently until she married Prince William to become a part of the immediate family, Meghan Markle, Prince Harry’s wife, didn’t.
In 2017, Prince Harry and Meghan weren’t married yet, but she still received a formal invitation to spend time with the royal family on Christmas day. This invitation was sent out after the Prince got permission from the queen. Now that they’re together, he doesn’t have to bother grandma and ask for special treatment for his wife.
