A Formal Apology From John Sina
For my part, I’m inclined to let John Cena off the hook with regard to this particular issue. In case you are not familiar with the situation that is being discussed, John Cena made a reference to Taiwan as a country while he was promoting Fast and Furious 9, which is simply referred to as F9 in the United States. Because of this, China completely lost it’s cool, which might not come as a surprise to you if you are familiar with anything about the relationship between China and Taiwan. The fact that Cena ultimately issued a formal apology for his actions really infuriated this poster.
But, as I mentioned before, I’m inclined to let him off the hook. First of all, he was doing publicity for a movie, and the production company may have insisted that he issue an apology in order to keep the job. Another point to consider is that the precise legal standing of Taiwan is, to put it mildly, fraught with difficulty. Although it is technically a country, many other nations, including the United States, do not formally recognize it in that capacity. I’m not suggesting that giving in when China starts throwing its weight around is the best course of action, but I am saying that this is a complicated situation to be in.
