Sidney Poitier
Joining the army could be intriguing to young individuals, especially given their desire for adventure and the promise of thrilling events that will stimulate their interest. However, as actor Sidney Poitier will attest, the reality of it all might be too much to handle.

At the time of his service, he was a bit of a renegade, faking his age to win entry into the military. He was able to smuggle himself into a mental facility and finally became a medical attendant there. Once he’d gotten in, his next challenge was to find out how to get out. He feigned to be insane, but the danger of being exposed to shock treatment prompted him to change his mind. His military release was finally approved after several weeks of consultation with a psychiatrist. He was deemed to be mentally stable.
