Tony Bennett
Tony Bennett’s hit songs “Fly Me to the Moon,” “Stranger in Paradise,” and many others were all recorded while he was serving in the military. When Bennett was drafted into the United States Army in 1944, he chose the “Blood and Fire” division as his unit of choice for service in the European theatre of operations.

It turned out that his demotion to the special forces was the best thing that could have happened as a result of military insubordination. When he returned to the United States after serving in the military, he took advantage of the GI Bill to pursue his dream of becoming a vocalist by attending college.
