Ted William
While serving in the US Marine Corps during World War II, Ted Williams put his baseball career on wait in order to defend his country. In addition to being a well-known Red Sox player, he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame for his achievements with the team.
His baseball career was cut short when he was recalled to serve in the Marine Combat Regiment as an aviator during the Korean War, which lasted from 1952 to 1953. His baseball prowess never waned despite spending much of his career in the military. He hit 342 with 38 home runs in 1946 after returning home.
