He served in the military before transforming into the endearing rogue that we all know and love. Hill worked as an electrical and mechanical engineer for the British military during World War II. He was one of the thousands of soldiers who landed on the beaches of Normandy on September 1, 1944, but he prefers not to talk about it because it brings back painful memories.
