It was decided that Ricky Gervais would host the 2011 Golden Globe Awards, which will take place on January 8, 2011. As is customary, the show included a couple of jokes that could have gone horribly wrong.
On the subject of the Johnny Depp-Angelina Jolie film The Tourist, which received multiple Academy Award nominations despite its lack of commercial success, jokes were made. Gervais’ references to celebrity recognition and outright bribery were met with a lukewarm response from the audience.
