Despite what people think of baristas, it’s actually an immensely challenging job. Tapping down the coffee grounds and getting the pressure right takes a lot more skill than people think. And the only way to hone your coffee-making skills is by working the espresso machine day in and day out.
Or you could hold a Ph.D. in any field and automatically become a seasoned barista somehow. This café does know what a barista is, right? And why would they even make this a doctorate degree a requirement for this job? What, are they trying to get an article published in Coffee Science?
